IKT Security Conference 2025

HACKNER Security Intelligence was once again represented with a booth at the IKT Security Conference, from June 25th to 26th, and in the ACSC (Austrian Cyber Security Challenge) by our colleague Martin.

Martin could once again qualified himself for the eight-hour final at ACSC. Although he could not place as one of the top three this year, the challenges and the exchange among old and new friends in connection with the ACSC were inspiring, encouraging, and exciting as they had been in the previous years.

Our booth presence was also challenging, exciting, and lively; particularly in the area of physical security with our own lockpicking challenge. Creativity and a keen eye for detail were required to open one of the various competition locks, each enclosed in a compact, modular brick casing. The time limit was five minutes to qualify for the final prize draw: a spot at HACKNER Security Intelligence's first "Physical Security and Black Teaming" workshop in early 2026. (Photos of the winner and challenge are available on our LinkedIn page.)

As every year, we were delighted to tackle the serious topic of security in a playful way through discussions and our challenges.

Especially since physical security has once again experienced a resurgence under the various defense topics. This is largely due to new legislative changes in the wake of the Critical Entities Resilience Directive (CER), the Resilience of Critical Infrastructures Act (RKEG), as well as enhancements to NIS2 and ISO 27002, which require a stronger focus on physical security concepts.

Since we have been regularly combining digital and physical pentesting for many years, whether in projects or, as recently again, in teaching activities, we found this increasing trend particularly positive, as it underscores the importance of raising awareness of physical security and black teaming.

Black teaming (also physical red teaming) refers to physical penetration testing, which uses realistic intrusion attempt scenarios to test a company's existing security systems and check for potential security vulnerabilities or planning gaps.

We will also present these topics and methods in a separate workshop in 2026.

In addition to the view from Dornbirn, we particularly enjoyed the conversations we were able to have with existing contacts, especially if we had previously only been able to meet digitally.

This direct contact always makes these events a pleasure, as challenges, exchanges and discussions continually strengthen the power and cohesion of the industry and the community within.
